New season to commence in November

Top Corner press release
Date:
19 September 2007

As you [the teams] are all no doubt aware by now we have had an on going 'situation' with the local residents who have continually complained about the noise during our bookings at Haverstock School. To counter this we have issued referees with new whistles, brought forward kick-off times from 8 to 7pm resulting in games finishing at 9 but we have been informed this has not appeased the local residents.

It seems that they have now become a somewhat powerful voice and the council have even recorded our games and the results quite clearly state that they have a strong case to stop us playing there all together. I am told that 60 decibels is at the upper end of an acceptable noise level and that during our games we have been peaking into the 80's.

We have reached a situation where by if we do not take immediate action then football at Haverstock School will cease. So as we know doubt all wish to continue at this venue we are taking the rather unusual step to ask all teams to be very aware of noise levels and that you must not shout during or after games or indeed while on the premises or within the immediate surrounding area. I fully appreciate that this will take some thinking about when on the football pitch but it simply must be adhered to if you wish to carry on playing.

To impose these rules will shall have someone overseeing the games who will have the right to be able to stop a game if a team is unable to control their noise levels. I am not asking you to whisper but simply do not shout as this is what registers a level that will get the leagues closed down.

Once your leagues come to a natural end we are going to take a break while the data is analysed by the local authority and a decision is made by them as to if we are allowed to carry on. So the new leagues, if we are able to show we can be quiet, will start now around the beginning of November.

I fully appreciate that football is a passionate game and that our leagues have become very competitive but basically this is our last chance. I think it's simply a change of mindset when playing and hope that we can all play our part so these leagues may long continue.

Thank you for your time and enjoy the rest of your season in a quiet manner!!
