The Cavalry-free round up

Cavalry call: Even Thundercats do it.

28 February 2007

Renaissance go into tonight's game with Warne FC attempting to set a record. No, not the 15-0 one, but a more personal and surprising one. A win tonight would set a Renai Record™ of four straight wins in a row.

Not many regard the 3-0 hand out awarded by Top Corner for the game against Allstars as a proper victory, and if anything Messrs Artist, Realist, and Verrocchio missed an opportunity to bag a sack full of goals and confuse an overworked referee in the process.

Victory would also find Renaissance unbeaten at the midway point of the season. Although, yet to face champions Recreativo, who look like they're back in business, they could open up an eight point lead against their arch rivals having played two games more.

The good news is this season looks like it might be every bit as nail-biting as the last and Renaissance seem better equipped to handle its rigours. Ted Baker, Venezuela, and Recreativo are all in the running and Enterprise are not the pushovers they threaten to be. Despite this, the familiar sound of the cavalry horn has yet to be heard, unlike last season when a bout of headlice would have been enough to see Renaissance reach for the horn.

The return of Rembrandt has strengthened the side in midfield and defence, as has Col. The two played a total of just two games between them last season. Xawfrus' caterpillar-like transformation into Verrocchio, and Cartman have given the squad an extra burst of pace and goal scoring prowess whilst Masaccio is proving ever more reliable between the sticks.

Tonight, Brunelleschi faces a late fitness test. Renaissance (from):
Masaccio; Rembrandt, Da Vinci; Col, The Realist, The Artist; Cartman, Verrocchio.
