Renaissance 3-1 FremantleMedia

The OMT campaign has continued to remain on course tonight despite a few unexpected bumps in the road. Renaissance made very hard work of a pedestrian Fremantle side, but when the dust settles, the fact remains that another precious three points are in the bag.
A couple of forced team changes provided Michael Angelo a return to the Renaissance side after a lengthy absence. Goalkeeping problems meant that in place of Masaccio, Brunelleschi had to step into the number one spot (after player-manager K.Umeh had warmed up his gloves with a cameo role in the first few minutes).
In complete contrast to the positive start that Renaissance made against Ted Baker last week, the men in blue struggled to set the early paces. The build up play was rather lethargic and uninspiring, and FM fed off these early failings, to try and impose their own agenda on the game. Neither side created any concrete chances, with the midfield dominating proceedings. Thankfully, with a couple of minutes before half time, a solo goal by The Artist, gave Renaissance a 1-0 lead that they just about deserved. Receiving the ball from Cartman, the intoxicated maestro advanced on goal and hit a shot which although had power, lacked direction. Nevertheless, it had enough about it to beat the FM stopper. HT 1-0.
Almost immediately after the half restarted, FM equalised. After Brunelleschi lost slight control of the ball, he was unable to stop it from just falling outside the area. A penalty was awarded and despatched with no fuss. Renaissance needed to step up their game again, and soon enough, they did just that.
Dan Benn made it 2-1 to Renaissance, with a sublime first goal that he will long remember. Following neat footwork, the towering forward curled in a beauty of a shot well beyound the reaches of the goalkeeper. This seemed to be the catalyst for a final quarter of attacking football, and near enough complete dominance.
The Realist, who had seen a shot hit the bar and bounce along the goaline minutes earlier, responded well, when he scored the team's third goal. It was hit well, and went in off the post for good measure. He was not to be undone twice by the woodwork. 3-1.
Further Renaissance chances were created, but the blues could not add to the scoreline. Michael Angelo's fine run on goal deserved better, but sadly he dragged his shot wide. Scholesey continued to impress with his neat touches and quick feet, but the goal never came. Cartman and The Artist also came close, as a tired FM defence were on their last legs. The Shaman gave another blood and thunder performance at the back, who along with Da Vinci, never looked in real trouble. FM made sure that it was not all one way traffic, when a long range shot from a midfielder whacked off the left hand post. FT 3-1.
Renaissance need to buck up their ideas for next week's massive game against Venezuela. That is not an encounter for the faint hearted. Its gonna be one hell of a battle.
