Megatron brace helps Renaissance do the double over tame Ted Baker

Renaissance 2 - 0 Ted Baker
8 August 2007

Colin Presly

In a dramatic and exciting affair between Ted Baker and Renaissance, the men in blue have emerged victorious. A clinical brace from Megatron either side of half time was enough to give the team all three points, and keep them in the hunt fot the championship.

Tonight's game marked an interesting new piece of Renaissance history. With Dave 'Sanchez' Hetherington making his first appearance at Haverstock, there have now been three sets of siblings who have turned out for the famous blues.

Past encounters between the two sides had thrown up many a high scoring battle. However, this game on the whole was quite tight and well balanced.

Both sides were full in the tackle and eager to win the second balls. Renaissance looked positive as they tried to take the game to Baker. A rather strange goal soon gave Renaissance the lead. A sloppy throw from the Baker Custodian only yards from his goal, managed to fall to the feet of the lively Megatron. He made no mistake and with due cause smacked the ball low into the bottom left hand corner.

This goal spurred Renaissance on, and they were unlucky not to double their lead before half time through shots by Scholesey, The Artist and the man of the moment, Megatron. HT- 1-0.

With the start of the second period, the game continued to remain rather even. Fine work from the Renaissance midfield managed to limit Baker's usual plethora of shots on goal. At the other end, Megatron and Scholesey made sure that the Baker defence was kept on their toes. The impressive forward Megatron nearly doubled Renaissance's lead, but a combination of the keeper and the post made sure Baker were still in the game - for now.

It was not all one way traffic though. Certain sloppy moments from Renaissance almost gifted Baker an equaliser. Two last ditch tackles from Cartman and Brunelleschi prevented a change to the scoreline.

At only one goal to the good, Renaissance knew that things were not wrapped up yet. Happily though, and coming with a certain amount of relief, the blues soon made it 0-2. Megatron ran on to a great pass and cleverly made some space before firing a shot well beyond the reaches of an exposed keeper.

The damage had now been done, and the points were finally secured. Once again plaudits must go to the Renaissance backline who, along with Masaccio, have guided Renaissance to a consecutive clean sheet. FT 0-2.

There will be no let up for Renaissance though, as another tough game looms on the horizon in the form of Venezuela.
